Make Ahead Meals and My Newest Obsession

A close friend of mine recently introduced me to the world of IIFYM (If It Fits Your Macros). I was watching her get AMAZING results and her diet wasn’t that restricted. I’ve spent many months doing Whole 30, cutting out sugar for a time, eating no carbs, and of course working out like a fool so I thought why not try something different. My problem with all these “diets” are that you end up going right back to what you were prior to the major restrictions you set for yourself.
So last week I started counting my macros. You are thinking, what are macros? Macros is short for Macronutrients. It includes protein, carbs and fats.
Using the IIFYM calculator, you can see what percentage or grams of each of these areas you should be having each day to meet your end goal. I use My Fitness Pal to track my macros each day. With my set macros I have to have an INSANE amount of protein and so to ensure I meet those macros I have to plan my meals each day. I try to eat really good with high protein, low fats and some carbs for breakfast and lunch. Then dinner comes and I can fit in the missing puzzles pieces to hit my macros for the day.
Here is a break down of a typical day. Like I mentioned if you eat really good breakfast and lunch, you can have more at dinner. Also don’t forget to plan ahead!
Breakfast: 4 scrambled egg whites and a piece of toast, fruit, or greek yogurt
Snack: Whey protein shake mixed in water (milk adds lots of fat)
Lunch: Tuna fish sandwich with mayo and dill pickle relish and a Chobani greek yogurt Flip (one of my newest obsessions. The Salted Caramel chocolate one is AMAZE BALLS)
Dinner: You can have really anything for dinner now because you have done soo good all day. My dinners include spaghetti, salads, Chick Fil A, Chipotle, protein style burgers, etc!
Snack: Whey protein shake mixed in water (milk adds lots of fat)
This past week I had some good days and not so good days. I had one day this week that I was low on carbs so I had to find carb friendly foods that didn’t have any fat. That was difficult. Pretzels were my new friend that day.
I will say the protein is HIGH! If you are going to try this, be aware that you have to be able to make your diet a protein based diet. I have to include 2 protein shakes as my snacks each day to ensure I meet my protein macros. I also ALWAYS have eggs for breakfast. I’ve learned to only have scrambled egg whites because the entire egg has fat so I rather enjoy my fats somewhere else during the day. Egg whites are just as tasty as the regular eggs! I’ve found tuna fish sandwiches with the Sara Lee Delightful bread are great as well! This upcoming week I’ve planned to make turkey spinach wraps on low carb multigrain  tortillas as my lunches. They are easy to make ahead of time and they are yummy! Pair that with some greek yogurt and you will have a yummy lunch for school that doesn’t take time to prepare and you can eat it on the go while grading or prepping in your classroom.
Enjoy and check out the website and find IIFYM on Instagram to see if it’s for you! I promise its amazing because you can still eat everything you wanted just in moderation and IIFYM! Did I mention I still drink one Diet Coke each day too?
