Map Making Mania
The past few weeks we have been learning our mapping skills in my 2nd grade classroom. My kiddos have loved integrating continents, oceans, landforms and map making into our big unit! I wanted to share the 2 favorite activities that my students enjoyed during the geography unit!
First of all our map flip books turned out great! The flip books are a great way to visually model how each part of where they live is part of a bigger map. They each build on each other from my home, my city, my state, my country, my continent, and my world.
This year I added a fun new activity called Paper Towns to my unit plans. After we learned all our map making skills I grouped my students into groups of 4 and each group collaborated together. The project task is to create a map of a town with at least 10 buildings to represent what a community needs to be safe and successful. This STEM activity is available in my store and includes all the things you will need to have your students plan, design, collaborate and problem solve.
Wow! I'd love to be a fly on your wall! Lucky kiddos!
Love your creativity.
